Feds sending Texas $5.47 billion for infrastructure

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) announced that it has released $5.47 billion to Texas in Fiscal Year 2023 apportionments for 12 formula programs to support investment in critical infrastructure, including roads, bridges and tunnels, carbon emission reduction, and safety improvements utilizing funding from the President’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The funds go directly to Texas, providing transportation leaders within Texas the flexibility to continue the important work of rebuilding roads and bridges and making their transportation system more efficient reflecting their state’s particular needs.

Waterfowl hunters presented with challenges

Dry conditions across the state could pose some challenges as waterfowl hunters gear up for the start of the new season. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) biologists indicate habitat conditions are not ideal for ducks and duck hunters in many parts of Texas. However, weather pattern changes in addition to timely cold fronts and significant rain events could help improve hunter’s fortunes.

Brazos looks to inch closer to playoff berth

Brazos has its football playoff destiny right in its own hands and that is exactly where they wanted it to be. “If we take care of business like we should, then we should be in the playoffs,” said Brazos Head Football Coach Ryan Roecker. “We can’t focus on how anything shakes out for the other teams as long as we take care of what we have to do. If we do what we need to do, then we will be standing where we want to be when the dust settles.”

Cornyn addresses safety of border commercial traffic

Texas Secretary of State John Scott convened the third Border Trade Advisory Committee (BTAC) meeting of 2022 with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), along with public and private sector stakeholders from throughout the Texas-Mexico border region. BTAC members identify transportation infrastructure challenges impacting trade between Texas and Mexico, and work collaboratively to develop potential solutions to enhance efficiency and safety of commercial traffic at Texas› 28 land ports of entry.

State doubles the previous month’s job gains

In September 2022, Texas added 40,000 nonfarm jobs, more than doubling the number of jobs added in August. For the eleventh consecutive month, the state set new employment highs as total nonfarm employment reached 13,571,800. The Texas economy has added 721,800 positions since September 2021. The Texas seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.0 percent, a decrease of 0.1 percentage points from August 2022.

Average gas prices rise 1.3 cents

Average gasoline prices in Texas have risen 1.3 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.25/g this week, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Prices in Texas are 9.8 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 30.6 cents per gallon higher than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has increased 18.7 cents in the last week and stands at $5.06 per gallon.
