Five earn academic all-state

Brazos High School had five seniors honored with academic all-state distinction from the Texas High School Coaches Association and Texas Army National Guard when the lists were announced May 6. To be honored, student-athletes, trainers and managers had to be a senior in good standing with the team, of good moral character and had maintained an overall grade point average of 92 or above in all classes from grades 9-11 and courses completed in grade 12.

Townsend, Marek compete at state

Body
Bellville and Brazos both had a lone representative at the Division 2 Texas High School Powerlifting Association State Championship at the Taylor County Expo in Abilene March 15. Alex Marek represented the Brahmas in the 198-pound weight class and finished fourth overall while Joey Townsend competed in the 165-pound weight class for the Cougars and earned 12th overall.

Locals qualify for state

The Texas High School Powerlifting Associations will have Austin County representatives at the state championship meet, two in the boys’ competition and one in the girls’ competition. After finishing in the top two in their class at the respective regional championships, Bellville’s Alex Marek and Brazos’ Joey Townsend and Halie Gonzalez punched their tickets to the top meet in the state.
