The Sealy News sponsored an Angel Tree for the Oaks and Silverlake Retirement communities. Gifts were distributed to the residents after being donated by residents of the Austin County community.

The children were in the pew in front of me. We had not arrived early enough at my sister’s church for the Christmas Eve service to secure a seat in the back, so we were in the fourth row. The first row is never used by anyone; the second row is only for people who arrive impossibly late. The third row is, for all intents and purposes, the front row, and that’s where these two wild-looking children were.

The subject came up spontaneously at a recent meeting of the New Mexico Cowboy Curmudgeon Coalition, where our motto is: “If we actually existed, would anyone really care?” It came about because of the time of year and the spirit of Christmas, and was encouraged by other spirits, of a more … well … bottled variety.

The Texas Department of Public Safety commissioned 79 new Texas Highway Patrol Troopers from recruit class C-2023 during a graduation ceremony on Friday, Dec. 8, which was held at Great Hills Baptist Church in Austin. Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick gave the keynote address.

AUSTIN COUNTY INDICTMENT REPORT DEC. 13 The Austin County Grand Jury returned indictments against five people in the Dec. 13 session. Those indicted include: Quintin Darnell Gonzales for evading arrest detention with a vehicle Catherine Diane Jones for possession of a class 1 controlled substance Marissa Nicole Moreno for credit card or debit card abuse Luis Torres for possession of a class 1/1B controlled substance and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon Rodney Deon Witherspoon for forgery of a financial instrument; theft of property over $2,500 but less than $30,000
