Nine Sealy High School student-athletes were recently honored by the Texas High School Coaches Association and the Texas Army National Guard with academic all-state distinction.

Five tennis athletes and four Tiger soccer players cracked lists that were split up into four levels: Elite, first team, second team and honorable mention.

“We understand that students’ performance in the class room can sometimes be difficult to manage while participating in athletics, but their hard work has not gone unnoticed,” it says on the THSCA website. “The THSCA Academic All-State Teams recognize high school athletes who excel in GPA, class rank and ACT/SAT score. The students are being recognized as a team member based on their scores in these categories.”

The website said that head coaches of respective sports could nominate a senior athlete, trainer or manager that is in good standing with the team, of good moral character and has an overall GPA of 92 or above.

For the tennis squad, Daniel Eschenburg landed on the first team, Hayden Havel, Eric Wilson and Abigail Zientek all earned second-team spots and Alexis Horelica was named honorable mention.

Of the soccer representatives, Julius Aguilar and Nicholas Reichardt garnered first-team honors and Ramiro Fuentes and Xavier Olvera were both honorable mentions.
