The Texas High School Powerlifting Associations will have Austin County representatives at the state championship meet, two in the boys’ competition and one in the girls’ competition.

After finishing in the top two in their class at the respective regional championships, Bellville’s Alex Marek and Brazos’ Joey Townsend and Halie Gonzalez punched their tickets to the top meet in the state.

Dylan Thaxton, who finished fourth in the 132-pound weight class, was Sealy’s closest representative out of 11 lifters on the regional stage. Brazos sent 13 lifters to regionals and Bellville’s lone regional qualifier advanced to state.

For the Tigers, Juan Perez (45 pounds), Corey Riley (30 pounds) and Weslee Novosad (25 pounds) all finished with improvements on previous season-best totals. Ana De La Portilla (30 pounds), Abigail Zientek (20 pounds) and Anya Cano (15 pounds) similarly closed their season on a positive note for the Lady Tigers.
