Both Brazos basketball teams opened play in District 24-3A with 1-1 records before heading to Hitchcock earlier this week.

The Cougarettes – who entered this week with a 1-4 overall record – fell to Danbury (44-23) then beat Hempstead (46-43) in its first district action. Following their game in Hitchcock earlier this week, the Brazos girls will host Boling this Friday.

Hitchcock entered the week with a 3-0 mark in district play with only East Bernard (1-0) also undefeated. Boling owned a 2-2 record and Danbury similarly registered a 1-1 mark while Hempstead sat at 0-3.

Similarly, the Cougars dropped a 49-26 contest to East Bernard on Dec. 21 and bounced back with a 59-44 win over Danbury on Dec. 29. The Brazos boys entered this week with a 6-3 overall record having outscored opponents 449-415.

The Cougars were one of four teams to open district play even while Hitchcock and East Bernard both opened with two wins. Van Vleck, Hempstead and Danbury all split their district-opening games and Houston Harmony and Boling dropped their first two.
