Thomas E. Golson, 84, of Sealy, Texas passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family Saturday, April 9, 2022. An Austin County resident of more than 51 years, Tom graduated from Midway High School in Waco and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from Baylor University in 1960 and his master’s in education from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1963.

Tom was passionate about his career in education and left a lasting impact on countless youth and educators that he touched during his remarkable 34-year career. He launched his career in Waco at Connally High School as a teacher and coach before advancing to both elementary and junior high principal positions in Van Vleck followed by a position where he served as the junior high and high school principal in Warren. Tom’s career then took him to Bellville where he served as high school principal from 1968 to 1975, Spur where he served as superintendent of Spur ISD for two years before returning to Austin County to serve as the superintendent of Sealy ISD for nearly 20 years. Married to the love of his life, Sarah Golson, for 43 years before her passing.

Tom was an outdoorsman who was always game for hunting, fishing, golfing, putting in hours at his cherished “South Forty” farm, and taking memorable family ski trips, playing dominos and cards with lifelong friends. He was also a passionate supporter of his sports teams and extracurricular activities in the communities in which he served. After Tom and Sarah retired from the Sealy Independent School District in 1997, Tom could be found often as a marshal at the River Ridge Golf Course or as a regular at morning coffee. He continued to give back to the community through his service on the board of directors for Brazos Valley Schools Credit Union and Region Six Education Service Center. Perhaps Tom’s most treasured role was serving as the number one fan of his sons and five grandchildren – making it a top priority to be at all of their sport and extracurricular activities.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents Ruth and Gene Golson, his beloved wife Sarah and his cherished grandson Jay Burger. He is survived by his son Stephen Golson and his wife Becky and their two sons Grant and Trent and his son Mark Golson and his wife Kelly Jo and their children Luke and Sophie.

Visitation was set for Thursday, April 14, from 5-7 p.m. at the Thomas E Golson Auditorium at Sealy High School, 2372 Championship Drive, Sealy, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 15, at the Thomas E. Golson Auditorium at Sealy High School. Burial will immediately follow the service at Sealy Cemetery.
