Richard Dean Goebel, 59, of Sealy, Texas, passed away on Saturday, July 31, 2021. He was born on March 19, 1962, in Bellville, Texas, son of Vernon Dean Goebel and Martha Skrivanek Goebel.

Richard was a lifelong resident of Sealy, Texas, and attended grade schooled grade school through high school in Sealy, graduating from Sealy High School in 1980. He continued his education at Blinn College in Brenham for two years and then graduated from Sam Houston State University with a bachelor’s degree in Finance in 1984.

Upon graduation, Richard began his career in the banking industry and worked at several locations throughout Huntsville and College Station. When Richard returned to Sealy, he managed the newly opened branch of Austin County State Bank. In 1988, Richard decided to make a career change and began working as the store manager at Pizza Hut in Sealy. He proudly maintained his position there until 2009. During his 21-year career at Pizza Hut, Richard had a true passion for the people he met and developed many wonderful relationships with employees and loyal customers that he serviced through the years. He was fondly known around town as “Mr. Pizza Hut.”

One of Richard’s favorite pastimes was gathering with all his extended family at different family events. He was adored by all his aunts, uncles and cousins and he loved them just the same. Though Richard did not have any children of his own, he enjoyed spoiling and doting on his four nieces and nephew, as well as his great-nieces and great-nephews. Over the years, they all had several names for him from Uncle Sushi to Uncle Ruby to Uncle Richard. A precious memory for them are the numerous trips to the library, and the times he spent reading to and with them.

Richard had an amazing love for his many friends and family and would go above and beyond to ensure they were always taken care of. This was seen and noted by many through Richard’s outgoing and bubbly personality. He was an active resident of the Sealy community and was involved with numerous organizations throughout town. True to his generous and giving nature, he also made frequent donations to these organizations. He had a heart of gold that overflowed with kindness and grace, and he always did his best to put others before himself. Continuing with this legacy, Richard gave in death just as he did in life; he was an organ and tissue donor.

Richard was preceded in death by his grandparents Louis and Emily Skrivanek, step-grandfather Herman Orange, Herbert and Mandolin Goebel. Surviving in addition to his parents, Vernon and Martha Goebel, is his sister, Gayle Goebel Frank, and husband, Tim, and brother, Mark Goebel, and wife, Judy. Richard is also survived by his nephew and four nieces Jeff Frank, Beverli Goebel Serrette, Lauren Frank Potgieter and husband, Lean, Rachael Goebel Bundick and husband, Christopher, and Deanne Goebel, as well as, 8 great-nieces and nephews, Mariah, Kobe, Kylie and Kyren Bell, and Mayson, Aubrei, Emmah, and Max Serrette.

Pallbearers: Michael Ondruch, Jeff Frank, Lane Herklotz, Brian Mazac, Jim Havel, Lean Potgieter and Christopher Bundick.
