Delton Lamar Weise passed peacefully from this earth on Monday, Aug. 28, 2023, in Richmond at the age of 82.

Delton was born on September 5, 1940, in Nordheim, Texas to Edwin W. and Adele A. (Teiwes) Weise. He attended school in Nordheim, graduating from Nordheim High School in 1958. He was joined in holy matrimony to Peggy Jane Mueller of Nordheim on June 6, 1959, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Nordheim.

Delton graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural education in 1962 and earned his Master of Education from Prairie View A&M University in 1975. Delton was a lifelong educator and school administrator. He began his career as the Vocational Agriculture Instructor at Wallis High School in 1962 and served as the principal for Wallis ISD from 1966 – 1967.

He worked for Wallis Sheet Metal from 1967 to 1971. He returned to education in Wallis in 1971 as the CVAE Metal Trades Instructor. He became the principal at Brazos Junior High in 1975 and the principal at Brazos High School in 1980. He served as superintendent of Brazos ISD from 1984 to 1992. He then served as principal at Woodsboro High School from 1992 to 1993. He completed his 30-year career in education at Columbus High School as the Vocational Agriculture Instructor from 1993 until his retirement in 1996.

Delton was an active member of the community, serving as a board member of the water district, a past officer of the Wallis Chamber of Commerce, a charter member and three-term president of the Wallis Lions Club, a member of the Woodsboro Lions Club, a representative to the HGAC Education Committee, the Austin County Economic Development Council and the Austin County Judge’s Economic Development Advisory Council. He was an Austin County Fair Association Director for 25 years, serving as an officer and treasurer for 14 years.

Delton was a founding member of the Coastal Conservation Association Prairie Chapter, and a member of the Hermann Sons Lodge since 1955. Delton was a regular auctioneer for summer festivals, fireman’s celebrations, and church bazaars. He was also the voice of the Wallis Steers and the Brazos Cougars, announcing football games.

He belonged to Phi Delta Kappa Honor Society, the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals, the Texas Association of School Administrators, Austin County Retired Teacher Association, and was a Century Club Member of The Association of Former Student of Texas A & M.

Delton was a lifelong angler and hunter, spending as much time as possible fishing in Port O’Connor and hunting in West Texas as he could. He enjoyed reading, gardening, and cooking, and in his later years his favorite hobby was spending time on his and Peggy’s farm in Nordheim, Texas, tending to their cattle. He was a devout fan of all Texas A & M athletic events, particularly football, and did not miss watching any games.

Delton is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Lonnie James Weise and William Wayne Weise. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Peggy; sister Cleo Doughty of Temple; daughters Lori and husband Harold McCain of Wallis, and Tami Miller of Manvel; grandson Aaron McCain and wife Linda of El Campo; granddaughter Samantha Miller of San Antonio; and great grandsons Conner and Kade McCain. Pallbearers for the funeral services are Harold McCain, Terry Callaway, David Hubenak, Dennis Pustejovsky, Alan Prihoda and Keith Leister.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Delton’s honor can be made to the Wallis Volunteer Fire Department, Austin County Retired Teachers Association scholarship fund or St John Lutheran Church.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Knesek & Sons Funeral Chapel, Wallis, Texas.
