David Massey 80, formerly of Mission, Zapata and Sealy, Texas passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2021, in Lampasas, Texas.

David is preceded in death by his wife, Judaka Wilson Massey, son Stephen Massey: parents Aretha Miracle Gorhum, Beauford “Doc” Gorhum; and father George Massey.

Mr. Massey is survived by his daughter, Linda Kay (Todd) Burkett and granddaughter Shiann J. Burkett of Lampasas; brothers, Johnny (Pam) Gorhum, Dr. Robert (Nora) Gorhum, Wayne (Lisa) Gorhum, sister-in-law Diana (Wayne) Bishop and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews from his and Judaka’s family.

David was born in Weslaco, Texas, and he graduated from PSJA in 1960. He then attended and graduated from Freed-Hardeman Junior College and Oklahoma Christian University with a BA in Speech and Drama with a minor in Secondary Education. David was a minister to several Churches of Christ in OK, NV, and Texas. Between 1982- 1987, David was a full-time teacher at Valley Christian Heritage School in Edinburg, Texas where he taught Bible, English, Literature/Grammar, Speech, Drama and Science. He was the first secondary teacher hired and was vital in the development of the academic guidelines for the school. He helped move the campus to Alamo and helped develop the high school as grades were added. David moved to Zapata, Texas in 1987 to be a full-time Minister at the Zapata Church of Christ and volunteered at the Zapata Chamber of Commerce. David moved to Sealy, Texas in 2002 to be a full-time minister at the Church of Christ and volunteer at the Sealy Chamber of Commerce. David retired in 2013 and moved to Lampasas to be closer to his daughter, son in law and granddaughter.

Graveside services are set for Saturday, Jan. 15 at 9:30 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery in McAllen, Texas. If the weather is bad, services will be held at the Harlingen Church of Christ Chapel at 9:30 a.m. with an interment to follow at Roselawn. There will be a light lunch held, following the interment, at the Harlingen Church of Christ multipurpose room if you wish to visit the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Valley Christian Heritage School, 932 N. Alamo Road in Alamo, Texas 78516.
