Adelle Ruth Maresh Hintz passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2023, in Sealy. She was 92 years old.

Mrs. Hintz was born in Frydek on Jan. 7, 1931, to John and Sophie Maresh. Her middle name, Ruth, was given in keeping with the local tradition of naming the first girl in each family after Ruth of the Bible.

She attended public schools in both Frydek and Sealy, graduating from Sealy High School in 1948. One of her favorite school activities was playing on the Sealy volleyball team. After graduation she attended business school in Houston for a year and then returned to Sealy to work as a switchboard operator in the local office of Southwestern Bell.

On Sunday Oct. 8, 1950, Adelle married Leroy Hintz. They settled in Sealy where they raised their three sons who kept her busy with their school, scouting and sports activities. Adelle loved her family. She was a supportive wife, caring mother, and a doting grandmother. She was a wonderful cook who enjoyed preparing the favorite meals of each family member.

Adelle was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sealy. She was confirmed in 1944 when the church was known as the Presbyterian Church of the Czech-Moravian Brethren. Over the years she served as an elder, as a trustee, and was very active in the women’s group. Her most gratifying work was on the building committee as they sought to carry out Cousin Wilma Petrusek’s wish for the

church to have a new worship sanctuary. This was accomplished with the completion and dedication of the new building in 2004 on Selman Drive.

In addition to family and church, she was very involved in maintaining the small farm in Frydek that had belonged to her parents. She was always mindful of the years of hard work her parents and brothers had put into the farm and was very appreciative of it. Adelle had fond memories of farm life and the close relationships that were shared within the community of relatives and neighbors.

Mrs. Hintz was preceded in death by her husband Leroy, parents John and Sophie Maresh, her three brothers Wilmer, Robert, and James Maresh, and Robert’s wife Mabel. She is survived by her sons David, Curtis and Michael Hintz, and Michael’s wife Sheila. Other survivors are grandson Kevin Hintz and wife Alexis, granddaughter Courtney Hintz Unger and husband Adam, great-grandson Ronin Price, sister-in-law Johnnie Ruth Maresh, and numerous nieces and nephews.
