When this season began, Sealy Head Softball Coach Brittany Whitehead knew she had a talented team on the field, but the unknown would be how this young squad would play on a stage of high competition. Last week, the Lady Tigers continued their growth as they had to go three games but were able to turn away a good Fredericksburg team in a best-of-three game regional quarterfinal series in Buda and advance to the regional semifinals this week in Cuero.

Authorities nab man on car thefts

Members of the Austin County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division arrested a New Ulm man in connection with a series of burglaries and thefts in the area. Quincy Kyle Janszen, 18, was arrested on several active warrants for charges of burglary of a building, theft of property (2,500 to 30,000) and theft of property $30,000 to $50,000).

Council approves guide for festivals on city grounds

The city of Sealy approved a city-wide event notification form, city-wide planning guide and risk factor table for any upcoming events to be held on city properties. “We are doing this because we are putting the city’s financial responsibilities at risk for events held on city properties,” said Sealy Mayor Carolyn Bilski.

DPS honors achievements and bravery at February PSC meeting

AUSTIN – The Texas Public Safety Commission (PSC), along with Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Director Steven McCraw, presented two William P. Clements Excellence Awards along with several Lifesaving Awards, a Director’s Award and one Unit Citation, at the PSC meeting on Thursday, Feb. 15, at the DPS Headquarters in Austin.
