The Sealy News has a new publisher in Amy Lieb.

Lieb, who had most recently served as the general manager, was named publisher of the News two weeks ago.

Prior to her most recent role, Lieb started as bookkeeper/office manager and has maintained the bookkeeping responsibilities while elevating on the leadership ladder going on her fifth year at The Sealy News.

“I always liked numbers and I wanted to work closer to home, Karen (Lopez) was the publisher, had an opening and I got to learn all about the newspaper side of things,” Lieb said. “She was a very good mentor, she put in the guidance that was needed to be a publisher and also knew when to let go so that I could grow on my own.”

Part of that growth was seen in the reassembled staff and revived newspaper, special sections and social media pages coming out of the first year of the pandemic.

“It was definitely a challenge to pick the paper back up but we were up to the task because we had a great group and a great support team that helped hire a wonderful staff who have all hit the ground running,” Lieb said.

Lopez, former publisher of The Sealy News and current executive publisher for Granite Media Partners, is part of the leadership team that helps maintain Granite’s mantra of “One Team, One Vision, One Goal.”

“Amy has worked very hard over the last few years to get Sealy to the point that it is at now,” Lopez said. “She has been the brain behind many of the current projects and has proven to be a superstar in our corporation.”

Lieb agreed that Granite’s emphasis on community has only helped the paper’s ascension and looked forward to localizing lessons learned from the group.

“Being part of the Granite team has brought in support to our newspaper that was very badly needed coming out of 2020 so having them as that backup is going to help us keep growing and evolving alongside our community to continue providing services it needs,” Lieb said. “We are very excited to be part of this community and look forward to all of the big things we have on the horizon for this year.”
