The main-lane closure on Interstate 10 at the Brazos River originally scheduled for Saturday, May 22, has been postponed again to Thursday, May 27, according to a Tuesday update from the Texas Department of Transportation.

The Saturday closure was postponed to Monday, then because of the rain was pushed again to Thursday with the same start and end times.

Members of Small World Early Childhood Enrichment Center’s Class of 2008 reconvened ahead of their high school graduations to recreate their class pictures 13 years later.

During the special meeting of the Sealy City Council at the Hill Center May 12, new city council members Edward Zapalac and Yvonne Johnson, as well as Chris Noack who was reelected, took their oath of office.

Alexa Grace Aschenbeck of Bellville was among more than 200 students inducted into the University of Mississippi chapter of Phi Kappa Phi for the spring 2021 semester. Phi Kappa Phi is the nation’s oldest, largest and most selective honor society for all academic disciplines in its mission “to recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others.” Membership in Phi Kappa Phi is based on a student’s sound character and academic standing.

The Cotton Boll Quilters presented housewarming gifts to the Austin County EMS Station No. 2 on Highway 90 in Sealy May 5. Crews quickly moved into the new station ahead of the mid-February freeze and now the building is about 90% moved into according to Chief Walter Morrow. The Chief said, “We’re so grateful for the support from the community and groups like these since we opened.”

At 12:01 a.m. Friday, May 7, the third year of local control and operation of the Bellville Medical Center began. With community support, dedicated employees and Hospital District Board members and stellar leadership, Bellville Medical Center has grown significantly in the past two years.
