Ahead of the Nov. 2 General Election, early voting began Monday, Oct. 18, for the Bellville ISD Bond Election and Austin County Municipal District No. 1. Early voting runs through Friday, Oct. 29 at various polling locations.

Sealy BJJ hosts self-defense class

As part of National Domestic Violence Awareness month, last Saturday Sealy Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) hosted a free self-defense class for women. The instructional class led by Coach Joe Waldrop of Undercurrent BJJ in Galveston featured tips on escaping chokeholds, throwing elbows, breaking an attacker’s grip and more.

Chesnutt forced to cancel Fair performance

Sealy Cemetery Marker Cleaning, Oct. 2

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sealy Cemetery (768 Fourth Street), the Sealy Area Historical Society is hosting a cemetery marker cleaning event. Learn how to clean your family markers and help clean historic markers to help preserve the Sealy Cemetery. Help rake leaves and remove brush. Elevator overhaul at County Courthouse

At its regular meeting Monday morning, the Austin County Commissioners Court discussed a complete renovation for the County Courthouse elevator. County Judge Tim Lapham explained that the elevator had sustained damage due to severe weather and needs drastic repair.

Cougars host Stars and Stripes night

The Brazos Cougar football squad dropped its second straight contest last Friday and fell to 1-2 on the season after a 42-0 loss to Burton at Cougar Stadium in Wallis. Brazos looks to get back on track against Weimar (0-3) on the road this Friday.

Rogers bids farewell

Brazos Superintendent Scott Rogers admitted last week it was a hard decision for him to leave Brazos for Brooks County but in the end, family was the main reason for the move. “Making the decision to go to Brooks County was a decision that was focused on my family and that I am going back to what is called home,” Rogers said.
