As the football regular season inches closer, the Katy 7-on-7 league that members of the Sealy Tigers have been participating in enters the final week of exhibition play. Last week, Sealy won both of its games over Mayde Creek and Jordan.

FOUR’S A CROWD

Clayton Fritsch, a member of Sealy High School’s Class of 2017 and current redshirt junior at Sam Houston State, took fourth place in the pole vault competition at the NCAA Outdoor National Championship meet in Oregon June 9. The top-eight finish secured his fourth All-American honor in his fifth national championship meet on the collegiate circuit.

Marik named Sealy’s head baseball coach

Thursday, Trey Marik was announced as the next head baseball coach of the Sealy Tigers. Dane Bennett, who served as head coach the previous four seasons, will be remaining on staff.

Marik, a member of Bellville High School’s Class of 1988, most recently coached the Somerville Yeguas and made previous coaching stops in Columbus and Brenham. Somerville had gone winless in multiple seasons before Marik’s stint and in 2021, the Yeguas secured a playoff position as the fourth-place team in District 26-2A.

Seals-Jones signs with Washington

Sealy High School and Texas A&M alumnus Ricky Seals-Jones signed a free-agent contract with the Washington Football Team May 25. Seals-Jones spent two years in Arizona and one year each in Cleveland and Kansas City where he amassed 60 catches for 773 yards and eight touchdowns. Seals-Jones enters his age-26 season with the Washington Football Team that finished 7-9 and first place in the NFC East last year. WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM

Manak signs with Jacksonville JC

Sealy High School senior distance runner Madison Manak signed her National Letter of Intent to run for the Jacksonville Junior College Jaguars during a ceremony last Wednesday, May 26. Head cross country coach and assistant track coach Anthony Branch, whose coaching career started in Jacksonville, always mentions how far Manak has come in her four years of high school.

Goad represents at nationals

As only a freshman, Sealy High School alum Madeline Goad and her Blinn Junior College teammates competed in the program’s first appearance at the NJCAA Women’s Golf Championship in Daytona, Fla. last week. The team registered 13th place out of 19 teams at the four-day tournament played at Plantation Bay Golf and Country Club.

THCA honors 11 from Sealy

Body
Sealy High School had 11 seniors honored with academic allstate distinction from the Texas High School Coaches Association and Texas Army National Guard when the lists were announced May 6. To be honored, student-athletes, trainers and managers had to be a senior in good standing with the team, of good moral character and had maintained an overall grade point average of 92 or above in all classes from grades 9-11 and courses completed in grade 12.
