Faith Academy looks strong at ‘Friday Night Lights’ meet

The Faith Academy Cross Country Team began their 2023 season at the Sealy “Frio Friday Night Lights Meet.’’ The meet was held on the Sealy High School campus, on Friday, Aug. 18. The meet is quite a spectacle. More than 80 teams attended, with 802 runners competing in the eight divisions offered.

Faith Academy preps for season with rousing scrimmage

The Faith Academy Knights varsity football team travelled to San Antonio for their second scrimmage of the year to take on SA Lutheran South, SA Prep Academy, and Kerrville Our Lady of the Hills. The things that the Knights worked on all week stood out and the Knights continue to shine.

Sealy takes second, third at FNL meet

The Sealy girls placed second while the boys’ team took home third in the Frio Friday Night Light meet last Friday held at Sealy High School. This highly heralded meet has grown by leaps and bounds since its inception and this year featured more than 980 participants from 36 schools attending the meet.

Sealy XC takes top finishes at Altair Meet

Sealy’s cross county harriers traveled to Rice to participate in the Altair Meet Saturday with the Sealy girls team bringing home a second-place finish and the boys team capturing a first-place finish at the meet.

Coming into last week’s scrimmage with Bellaire Episcopal, Sealy Head Football Coach Clint Finley said he just wanted to see his Tigers come out and play with confidence and not worry about making any mistakes. “I just want the kids to get out there and compete against Episcopal and play with confidence,” Finley said.

Knights football swings into scrimmage action

The Faith Academy Knights held their first scrimmage of the young football season at SAB Stadium, Friday night in front of a packed house. The Knights welcomed Spring Founders (TAPPS) and Second Baptist University Model (TAPPS), in a three-team switchoff style scrimmage. A few minor mistakes here and there with the blocking but they moved the ball all night and outscored both teams by a combined 11 touchdowns.

When this season began, Sealy Head Softball Coach Brittany Whitehead knew she had a talented team on the field, but the unknown would be how this young squad would play on a stage of high competition. Last week, the Lady Tigers continued their growth as they had to go three games but were able to turn away a good Fredericksburg team in a best-of-three game regional quarterfinal series in Buda and advance to the regional semifinals this week in Cuero.

Authorities nab man on car thefts

Members of the Austin County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division arrested a New Ulm man in connection with a series of burglaries and thefts in the area. Quincy Kyle Janszen, 18, was arrested on several active warrants for charges of burglary of a building, theft of property (2,500 to 30,000) and theft of property $30,000 to $50,000).

Rizzo selected as new principal of Brazos High School

WALLIS - Brazos ISD announced the appointment of Andrew Rizzo as the new principal for the upcoming 2024-25 school year. The Board of Trustees approved Rizzo’s hire in a Special Board meeting Wednesday May 8.
