The City of Sealy Health Inspector has inspected the following establishments for food preparation, kitchen cleanliness, and sanitary conditions.

In celebration of school board appreciation month, the Sealy ISD Board of Trustees were presented with gifts to open January’s regular meeting held at the Sealy ISD Administration Building last Wednesday.

In Austin County, 1,477 people have received at least one dose of the vaccine to protect against COVID-19, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). Those records show 192 are fully vaccinated.

At the end of last week, the time finally came for the demolition of the building formerly known as the Rooms 4 Rent Motel on Highway 36 in Sealy and the lot has since been turned into an empty plot of land. The property was purchased by local businessman John Wilson in November for $508,000 and the Sealy Economic Development Corporation contributed up to $200,000 for asbestos treatment.

Tuesday afternoon, the Texas Department of Transportation announced a traffic switch for westbound traffic on Interstate Highway 10 at the FM 1458 intersection starting tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 3.

A release from TxDOT says the new traffic pattern will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday and is scheduled to be completed by 5 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 4.

Last Thursday, Jan. 21, Bellville Medical Center staff celebrated the departure of Maude Browning, a 103-year-old Bellville resident, six days after a triumph over not only COVID-19 but also a case of pneumonia.

Mel Eason, owner of Joy Brush Signs, recently completed her mural on the side of the Edward Jones building in downtown Sealy after seven days of work. Based out of Houston, Eason said it was the most time she had spent in Sealy although her parents live in Bellville so she wasn’t unfamiliar with Austin County. Erin Krampitz Designs contacted Joy Brush Signs and brought her out to a blank canvas to do with what she pleased. Eason built off inspiration she got while picking out a bouquet of flowers and went to work.
