Happy Cousins Dance Club Dance, May 14 It’s time to dance! The Happy Cousins Dance Club is hosting its monthly public dance Saturday, May 14, with music by the Texas Legacy Czeck Band from 8-11:30 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Wallis, Texas located at 330 Legion Road.

Rails to Trails plans begin

A new multi-use trail is coming to Austin County. The Secretary of State recently approved the 1093 Rail-to-Trails Local Government Corporation (LGC) to oversee converting thirty-one miles of abandoned train railway into useable public recreation space and planning for the project is now underway.

Faith Academy upper elementary students spelling bee

Body
Do you how to spell “acciacatura?” Or how about how to pronounce “sobriquet?” Well, the upper elementary students at Faith Academy do! For most of the school year, the third through fifth grade students studied and prepared to participate in the academy’s in-house spelling bee. These students spent hours memorizing how to pronounce, define, and spell over 400 words.

Construction begins

On May 9 construction began on State Highway 36 at the IH-10 intersection. Northbound and southbound traffic was merged to single lanes in each direction of travel on the existing southbound half of SH 36. Jason Road is closed at SH 36, by Dairy Queen. This traffic pattern will be in effect until Phase 1 construction is complete, estimated to finish around May 16 or 17. RAE DRADY

One-Act Play Competition

Sealy High School’s Tiger Stage Company was sent off to the state-level high school One-Act Play Competition in style on May 4 by parents and members of the community at a parade-style event with a police escort. The theater company is comprised of freshman through senior students, and they were presenting, “Wise Children,” a play adapted from Angela Carter’s novel. Sealy Police Department holds KidsFish event

The Sealy Police Department held its annual KidsFish event on May 7 at B&PW Park. Sealy Wal-Mart, Promethean Promotions, Crosby Towing, Big T’s Auto Detail, and other Sealy businesses and residents helped to make the event a success with their donations.
