One-Act Play Competition

Sealy High School’s Tiger Stage Company was sent off to the state-level high school One-Act Play Competition in style on May 4 by parents and members of the community at a parade-style event with a police escort. The theater company is comprised of freshman through senior students, and they were presenting, “Wise Children,” a play adapted from Angela Carter’s novel. Sealy Police Department holds KidsFish event

The Sealy Police Department held its annual KidsFish event on May 7 at B&PW Park. Sealy Wal-Mart, Promethean Promotions, Crosby Towing, Big T’s Auto Detail, and other Sealy businesses and residents helped to make the event a success with their donations. Sealy taxes to rise

Sealy property tax rates are expected to rise six cents, after the city council approved a 25-year maturity schedule for repayment of bonds. On May 3, council considered either a 20 or 25-year repayment schedule for the upcoming bond issuance, which was originally discussed April 19.

Drugs, guns seized

Body
Two suspects were arrested on drug and firearms charges by members of the Austin County Special Response Team (SRT) on May 4, at approximately 11 a.m., after officers executed a narcotics search warrant at the Columbus Inn, located at 2208 State Highway 71 in Columbus, Texas.

I-10 Eastbound lane closed Friday night

Body

This Friday Night, May 13, there will be a single lane closure for IH-10 Eastbound at the Brazos River Bridge for the purpose of pouring the next bridge deck.

The closure will be implemented after 10 p.m. and will be end by 8 a.m. the next morning. Message boards and police officers will be in place for this operation, so traffic delays are expected.

IH-10 closed tonight

Body

Tonight, May 10, there will be a freeway closure on IH-10 Eastbound and Westbound lanes between FM 1458 and FM 3538 to install sign bridges over the main lanes. The closures will begin after 7 p.m. and will be completed by 5 a.m. May 11. Message boards and police officers will be in place for this operation, so expect traffic delays. The illustration shows the detour route, which utilizes US 90 through Sealy.

Election winners announced in key local races

Election results for key races among Austin County candidates have come in, although still unofficial, with 15 of 15 precincts reporting.

The same three candidates in the Wallis City Council election have come out on top as in early voting, although the ranking changed. Joell Prado finished with the most votes at 165. James King ended up with 159 votes, and Clark Main, Jr. received 155. In this race six candidates were competing for three seats.
