Sealy Junior High rolls past Smithville

The Sealy Junior High volleyball teams traveled to Smithville last week and all four squads came away with victories. 7th grade B won 25-23 and 25-9 7th grade A won 25-7 and 25-14 8th grade B won 25-10 and 25-6 8th grade A won 25-14 and 25-12 In the 8th grade A team game these ladies had some outstanding stats: Lauren Luther – six kills, 11 aces, two digs, and one block Lila Meyer- one ace and four digs Annabelle Miller- one kill Ava Carr – three kills and one dig Julissa Olvera – three aces and two digs Paige Stanford – one ace Chloe Reynolds – two aces and three kills Kali Bradford – three aces and seven digs Julia Lechler – three kills and one block..

BOUNCING BACK

Take away the first half of the Sealy-Stafford matchup and the Tigers would be sitting at 3-0 heading into this week’s contest. But the first half did count and everything that could go wrong in the first half did for Sealy and Stafford took advantage to take a 28-0 halftime lead en route to a 44-24 victory over Sealy Friday night.

MUSCLES, MASS AND METZGAR

Try to think about the heaviest item or object you’ve ever lifted in your life; Was it heavier than 545 pounds? That’s the exact same weight Jeremiah Metzgar deadlifted in order to become the first-ever powerlifting state champion in Sealy High School history. On his second and last ever trip to state, Metzgar clinched the THSPA championship title in the 148 lbs.

LEAVING A LEGACY

Wernecke overcomes obstacles to shine on athletic fields for Sealy With all his accolades on the football, track and baseball field of competitions, there is one play that stood out this senior season for Haden Wernecke. On the first place from scrimmage in Sealy’s 41-18 loss to Cuero, Cuero quarterback Mason Notaro ran a keeper to the left side for a nice 11-yard gain to the Gobbler 38.
