Knowing that a win gained Sealy a playoff berth, the Tigers came out and took care of business against La Marque and walked away with a relatively easy 54-7 victory. The victory gave Sealy a finish as the fourth seed in the playoffs.

After achieving significant professional success, University of Wisconsin Oshkosh alumna Cheryl Mellenthin has devoted much of her time to giving back and sharing that success with others. Her widely recognized accomplishments and generosity have earned her a Distinguished Alumni Award from her alma mater.

Dealing with key injuries all season long, the Brazos Cougars saw their football season come to an end last Friday with a 20-10 loss to Boling in the district finale. Brazos ran out to a 10-0 lead over Boling before Bulldogs would score 20 unanswered points to claim the district win.

With a young team returning after gaining valuable experience this year, the Brazos Cougarettes volleyball squad will be ready to make an even better run in the Class 3A playoffs next year. Brazos went up against a tough Anderson- Shiro team in the bi-district round in Columbus last week and dropped a hardfought three set match to the Lady Owls.

Native Texan Tim Greeson has declared his run to become the conservative representative for the people of Austin, Colorado, Fayette, Fort Bend, Waller and Wharton counties. Greeson campaigns against first term incumbent, Stan Kitzman.

The Coastal Plains District, part of the Sam Houston Area Council for Boy Scouts of America, hosted its much-anticipated annual Rocket Day on Oct. 21. The event, which took place at Mayorga’s Ranch in Orchard, saw a successful turnout, including over 70 Cub Scouts launching their rockets skyward.

Sealy’s Economic Development Corporation (EDC) made motions for several items at their meeting Tuesday, Oct. 24, including the approval of an additional $7,000 in funding for the annual Fantasy of Lights event.

The Brandt 1910 event venue located in Wallis shared the Halloween spirit at their Spooky Speakeasy Oct. 21, in collaboration with the Fulshear, Katy Area Chamber of Commerce.

The heavy winds associated with the arrival of a cold front Thursday evening left the fencing around T.J. Mills Stadium damaged. 

The fencing, which now has new privacy slats installed, was taken down by the force of the winds sometime Thursday evening.
