Thawed out from last week’s deep freeze and mostly able to bathe or shower, Texans are demanding answers as to why they were left without power during the worst of the weather emergency. At least 36 people died from the cold or carbon monoxide poisoning across the Lone Star state.

City of Sealy awaiting lab results on water quality

As of Monday morning, City of Sealy officials were waiting for lab results on the city’s water quality according to Mayor Carolyn Bilski.

Residents can sign up for the city’s public notification system and be notified when the boil water notice will be officially lifted. Notification settings can also be tailored to provide updates on the city, buildings and public works by visiting cityofsealy.bbcportal.com.

Sealy Main Street hosted the Downtown Sealy Sweethearts Sip n’ Stroll event last Saturday to celebrate Valentine’s Day. 10 local vendors were set up around the square, including Patches By Smith’s & Co., and pop up shops were hosted inside 222 Fowlkes Street. (Amanda Luksha/Sealy News)

Sealy Main Street hosted the Downtown Sealy Sweethearts Sip n’ Stroll event last Saturday with multiple vendors and entertainment opportunities to celebrate Valentine’s Day. For more pictures of the event check The Sealy News’ Facebook page.

Austin County Jail Museum Preservation Project

The 125-year-old Austin County Jail Museum building is beginning to show its age. Built in 1896 as Austin County’s fourth jail, the building is in dire need of interior repairs and preservation. The last prisoner was removed in 1982. It now operates as the Austin County Jail Museum, featuring the jail’s and county’s history through exhibits on the first level.

Sealy’s Super Bowl debut

When Super Bowl LV kicks off Sunday evening in Tampa Bay, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Ricky Seals-Jones will become the first Sealy-born NFL player to make the championship game.

According to Pro Football Reference, which has a record of Texas-born players dating back to 1920, only Eric Dickerson (Sealy High School alum) and Shane Lechler (East Bernard High School alum) were born in Sealy but neither advanced past their respective conference championships.
