Just as Wallis Mayor Steve Bockel was to be sworn in for a second term, he abruptly resigned.
According to City Secretary Sheila Moseley, Bockel was at the May 15 meeting where he was due to receive the oath of office. Instead, he gave directions about how things should go and then resigned.
At the moment, that leaves Mayor Pro-Tem Clark Main Jr. in charge until the council can decide whether to make an appointment or hold another election.
Attempts by The Sealy News to reach Bockel and Main for comment were unsuccessful as of press time. It is not known why Bockel resigned.
Bockel is the owner of Clean Rides, a classic car restoration company, in Wallis. He was first elected mayor in 2015 and then re-elected this year.
