Volleyball season comes to an end

The Sealy Lady Tigers volleyball season has come to an end after losing to Navarro High School in three sets in the second round of the playoffs. The Lady Tigers dropped all three sets with scores of 14-25, 17-25 and 19-25.

As has been the case for much of the season, the seniors dominated that stat line. Rayann Rabius led the team in kills with 13 and was the only player to achieve double digits in that category. Madison Klotz led with five blocks while fellow seniors Madison Luther and Molly Dittert finished with 16 assists and two aces respectively.

Junior Faith Haugen was the only non-senior to lead in a statistical category with 13 digs, finishing one ahead of Luther’s 12.

Coach Kimberly Svien said while the loss hurts, there is a promising future for the Lady Tigers.

“Our district will be a dogfight for the next couple of years and it’s pretty nice having [younger] players that have this experience and know the routine,” Svien said.

Even with a group of younger juniors and sophomores with high potential, the Lady Tigers will have to replace six seniors including Luther, Klotz, Dittert and Rabius who frequently led the team in multiple statistical categories.

Svien said that their contribution to the team extended beyond just their play on the court as well.

“The seniors gave the underclassmen on the team some really big shoes to fill so they really have to step up to the plate,” Svien said. “The good thing is some of my hardest working kids are always looking to improve and they’re a confident group so I think they’ll do a great job of that next year.”

The Lady Tigers varsity roster will have four juniors and two sophomores returning with more starters being promoted from junior varsity.
