Restaurant and grocery store hours:

Walmart does not have any plans to close. 

Bill's closes at 7 p.m. and will reopen at 7 a.m.

Whataburger is not closing.

Tony's Family Restaurant is closing early between 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.

McDonald's has no plans to close.

Hinze's BBQ is closed.

Red Cross shelter

A Red Cross shelter will be available at the Sealy KC Hall beginning at 3 p.m. Aug. 25. Anyone needing shelter from the storm may shelter there.

Election rescheduled

The Special Election has been rescheduled from Aug. 26, 2017, to Sept. 9, 2017, pursuant and in compliance with Texas laws due to severe weather conditions to give all voters the opportunity to participate in the Special Election.

Notice is hereby given that the polling places listed below will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Saturday, September 9, 2017, for voting in a special election to elect a Position 2 Sealy City Council member.

TxDOT road closure canceled

A major closure of Interstate 10 in both directions in downtown Houston planned for this weekend has now been canceled due to weather. This is for the demolition of the Elysian Viaduct over I-10 as part of the reconstruction of the entire viaduct. Sealy News early deadlines

The Sealy News is closed Sept. 4 for Labor Day. Our deadline for advertising, obits and story submissions is 3 p.m. Aug. 30.

Sealy ISD closed Friday

Due to forecasted weather conditions, all Sealy ISD campuses and offices will be closed and classes canceled for Friday, August 25, 2017. Parents/guardians should continue to check with media outlets and the school website over the weekend for any other information concerning classes for Monday. - Doug Young, assistant superintendent

City of Sealy closing early

Only necessary staff, as determined by the department heads will be required to come in at 8 a.m. on Friday for work. City offices will completely close at noon on Friday, August 25, 2017 and employees will be allowed to go home and prepare for the storm.

Cross country meet on Saturday Aug. 26 'Run the Ridge" has been canceled due to anticipated storm.

Blinn College closes Schulenburg, Sealy campuses Friday, Aug. 25, due to approach of Hurricane Harvey

Blinn College has closed operations on its Schulenburg and Sealy campuses Friday, Aug. 25, due to the approach of Hurricane Harvey.

The Blinn-Bryan and Blinn-Brenham campuses remain open. The College will release all non-essential Brenham Campus personnel at 4 p.m. today.

A decision regarding Monday’s district-wide operations will be announced by 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27.

SAT testing that was scheduled to take place on the Brenham and Bryan campuses Saturday has been cancelled.

On Friday, the College postponed its football game that was originally scheduled to take place Saturday against Texas A&T.

Capital One closing early

Capital One branches Sealy, Brenham, Columbus and surrounding areas will be CLOSED at 1 p.m. due to Harvey making landfall.
