The varsity boys’ basketball team played their first home game this season on Tuesday, Dec. 8, when they hosted Needville and lost 53-37.

The game was set for tipoff against Needville, and to set the scene, which boasts three players that are over 6 feet 4 inches, to include their tipoff man who is 6 feet 8 inches.

Sealy senior Jason Mackey took to the middle of the court to fight for the Tigers. Standing 5’10”, Mackey only showed a bit of hesitation when the ball went up, hands met and the game was off.

The Tigers were holding their own through the first quarter of play. Battles under the net were challenging, but Tajh Green dominated the Tigers scoring with nine of the first 11 points, and Derick Dabney with two.

The second quarter slowed to a crawl for the Tigers. Losing second chance shots and rebounds hurt them on the scoreboard. CJ Brandinburg had a two-point shot and nailed a 3-pointer, but those were the only points scored ending the first half Sealy 16, Needville 26.

Sealy came out in the third quarter and went neck to neck with Needville almost even in points. Clayton Fritsch had a 3-pointer and Brandinburg again controlled the Tigers board with seven of the 12 points.

The fourth quarter was up and down the for the Tigers. Christian Browning stepped up with five points including a 3-pointer, with Fritsch and Dabney each adding two more points.

They weren’t enough to close the gap and the Tigers lost 53-37.

At the Lexington tournament Dec 3-5, the varsity boys went 2-2 by defeating Snook 44-33, defeating Milano 36-27, then losing to Lexington 39-48, and Dime Box 39-33.
