The Life of Norris Mae Scranton

Norris Mae Scranton, 90, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016 at her home following a brief illness.

She leaves to mourn her husband of over 70 years, Joe Scranton Jr., her son, Larry Scranton, son Gerald Scranton and daughter Octavia Cooper; grandchildren, great grandchildren; and many relatives and close friends.

Born and raised in Sealy, Texas, the daughter of Norris and Arthur Anderson, she was a lifelong resident of Sealy.

Norris was a devoted wife, beloved mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Anderson Street Church Of Christ, a devout Christian, a women of God who was faithful throughout her life.

She was a dedicated homemaker who was known to family, friends and neighbors for her extraordinary cooking, canning and gardening abilities. She embodied the Christian definition of hospitality feeding and caring for the sick and those within her neighborhood.

Norris was the cornerstone of her family. She worked tirelessly beside her husband Joe Scranton Jr., who served the City of Sealy for over 25 years as Councilman and Mayor Pro Tem all after he retired from his job as track supervisor for the Santa Fe Railroad.

Norris was a beacon of light in the community and truly an example to the believers in conversation, love and faithfulness. She was the epitome of Proverbs 31:10.

Special thanks to Cecil Cooper, the son-in-law of Norris Mae Scranton. There was never a moment he wasn't actively present to care for Norris. Thanks to Dr. Wilford Morris Jr. whose care and concern extended past his time of retirement.  A final thanks to all who so graciously helped with the Repast.

The family of Norris Mae Scranton wishes to thank everyone for their expressions of love and sympathy shown through calls, cards, flowers and food during our time of loss. Your act of kindness will not be forgotten.

A funeral service was held Sept. 17, 2016, at Memorial Church Of Christ from Miller-Josey Mortuary, LLC, with burial at the Sealy Cemetery.
