Five live evening performances and two family events are on tap during the last half of 2019 at The Barnhill Center at Historic Simon Theatre.
“The upcoming events are filled with live music, legendary stars, magic, comedy and family fun,” said Jennifer Eckermann, tourism and marketing director for the City of Brenham.
“We’ve been trying new things and listening to our audiences through questionnaires. So far, 2019 has brought us sell-out crowds – an auspicious start to our new programming.”
Tickets are on sale for a baseball-themed family movie event on Friday, July 26, at 10 a.m. “The Sandlot” feature film on the big screen will include games and a ballpark lunch.
Shinyribs will perform on Saturday, Aug. 17, at 7 p.m. Tickets will go on sale July 15.
“This is outrageous fun,” said Sharon Brass, booking representative for The Barnhill Center. “This multiple award-winning Austin blues band has been selling out shows across the country, ever since they appeared on Austin City Limits.”
The Comedy and Magic of Harry Maurer show on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. will bring a new type of family entertainment to Brenham. Maurer has entertained people of all ages across the United States with many accolades from the media, Las Vegas and Atlantic City casinos, cruise lines, and Fortune 500 companies.
The Texas icon, Gary P. Nunn will perform his hits on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. Winner of a CMA Award, a Grammy Award and a BMI Million-Air Award, Nunn was recently honored by the Texas Legislature and Gov. Greg Abbot for his lifetime of perpetuating Texas music, history and culture. Nunn has announced his retirement next year.
The Local Legends show on Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. will feature a group of local performers who have worked together for several decades.
“Each of our Washington County all-stars is an accomplished professional musician, and they are even better when they collaborate,” said Brass.
Performers in Local Legends include LouLou Barbour, Allison Crowson, Charlie Kelm, Pat Kelm, Payton Kelm, Neil Kulhanek, Fred Lockett, Paul Murski, Sam Murski, Mark Pollard, David Reynolds and Robert Zeintek.
The Gatlin Brothers will return with their special Country & Christmas show on Friday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m. They will perform some of their hits and holiday music with inspirational stories.
A Home Alone family movie event will end the 2019 season on Friday, Dec. 13, at 6 p.m. Letters to Santa will be written and given to him personally, along with story time and a Christmas singalong. The movie on the big screen includes snacks.
“We are already working on shows and events for 2020, and we are excited about the coming year,” said Eckermann.
