There is still time to enter your old car or truck in the 2017 Spring Fest Car Show and parade sponsored by the Sealy Area Historical Society. Participants can register online at www.sealyhistoricalsociety.org. The parade will begin at Sealy Tractor (Virnau’s) at 11:30 a.m. and travel south on State Highway 36 to Main Street and then continue west to the Liedertafel. There will be three places awarded for best in show as well as a people’s choice award. The car show and other festivities will be held in and around the Liedertafel at 116 Lux Road.
Hours for the Spring Fest are 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on April 8. In addition to the car show there will be games and entertainment all day including vintage baseball games played by rules used in the 1800s. You will see players in old-fashioned uniforms playing with handmade balls and no gloves. The games will be played at the B&PW Park next to the Liedertafel.
Other games from yesteryear will include egg toss competitions, hoop and stick races, hula hoop contests, hi-striker strength test, and coloring contests for all age groups including adults. You will also have the opportunity to drop a few of Sealy’s notable residents into the dunking booth operated by the local Cub Scouts.
Entertainment includes Texas’ first female State Musician, Shelley King, who performs a mix of blues, folk, soul and country rock sounds. King is a singer songwriter who has recorded seven albums and has won Austin Music Awards for Song of the Year and Best Roots Rock Band. King takes the stage at 2 p.m. following Sam Smith and Savannah Adkins, both from Katy, who also perform country rock sounds. The musical entertainment lineup concludes with songs from Michael Hardie, one of Sealy native accomplished musicians, who takes the stage at 4 p.m.
Vendors will sell handmade and homegrown items. Vendors may register online to sell their wares or may call Barb Taberner at 281-300-1698. There will also be a wide variety of plants available for sale by the Bluebonnet Master Gardeners who are holding their annual plant sale at the Spring Fest.
Other activities include a cake walk featuring home-baked cakes by some of Sealy’s best bakers, a balloon artist and a train for the kids to ride. Food will be served all day and includes grilled hamburgers and hotdogs and pie and ice cream floats.
