On Saturday, Sept. 23, the Austin County Fairgrounds will be the place to be.
The 5K Stampede kicks off Austin County Fair season with a 5K run that starts at the Turnverein, winds down Wendt Road, up Mechanic Street and back to the Turnverein. Entry forms are available online or at the fair office.
Once you return to the fairgrounds, the first ever Family Fun Day at the Fairgrounds starts.
Food and drink vendors and merchandisers of all kinds will be at the fairgrounds. As of press time, confirmed foods include shaved ice, funnel cakes, fried Oreos, Frito pie, chili cheese fries, burgers and chicken salad sandwiches. A mechanical bull, face painting, airbrush tattoos, children’s books and jewelry booths will be there as well.
The fair office is working on getting more, so stay tuned either via the Austin County Fair Association Facebook Page and/or news releases. If you are a vendor looking for a free place to sell your products, please get in touch with the fair office as soon as possible.
Throughout Family Fun Day at the Fairgrounds, local high school singers such as Hannah Hunter, The Books and Alyssa Hale will be performing. If you know of another local singer who would like to perform, please let the fair know.
In addition to the swing set behind the Turnverein, horseshoes, corn hole, volleyball and baseball equipment will be available.
There will be no charge to enter the fairgrounds or park during the Family Fun Day at the Fairgrounds from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Winding down the day but kicking up the night will be the Annual Austin County Fair Kickoff Dance & Shrimp Boil.
