T.J. Mills Stadium will be the site for the second round of the postseason for the Colorado River Youth Football Coalition, although only two of three Sealy teams will still be playing.
Last week, the freshman team met with the same Columbus #2 team they squared off with in the Super Bowl and similarly ended up on the short end of the stick, this time by a 6-0 score.
The Tigers ended the regular season with a win over the Columbus #1 team to earn a No. 4 seed with a 5-3 overall record. Similarly, Columbus #2 entered the postseason with a 5-3 record and needed only one score to move on in search of another Super Bowl appearance.
The other two Sealy teams will be looking for the same after earning a bye through the first round with undefeated regular seasons.
The junior varsity Tigers will meet with the Columbus #1 team after its 32-0 win over Wharton in the first round. The first meeting of these two teams ended with a 27-0 Sealy win but now a Super Bowl berth is on the line.
Pierce Burttschell, Alex Gilbert, Dredynn White and Joel Gomez will look to produce similar defensive efforts and advance the Tigers back to the top game of the year.
On the varsity level, the Tigers will have a showdown with La Grange after the Leopards took care of business in the first round, 22-8, over Bellville.
In week three of the regular season, Sealy held a 32-0 lead at the halftime break en route to a 38-9 win over La Grange to move to 3-0 at that point. Now, with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line, Kane Killough and the rest of the Tiger offense will look to put up another explosive effort.
In the regular-season meeting, Ivan Cadena burned a long touchdown run and Ryland Ponce was on the receiving end of a 53-yard passing connection. Jadon Hernandez, Elijah Sanders, Javien Grant and Erick Sanchez allowed the Leopard offense to convert only three first downs and a singular touchdown and will need a similar effort to get Sealy one step closer to the ultimate prize.
