A 29-year-old Sealy man remains in critical condition at a Houston hospital after he was stabbed multiple times during an altercation Saturday night.
Sealy police responded to a report of a disturbance at 388 Newcom Lane where they discovered Marion Gustavo Ortiz-Reyes bleeding profusely from multiple wounds. A suspect, David Arriaga, 28, was found in the back yard of the residence and arrested by police.
Once the rest of the house was searched and deemed safe, Austin County EMS was notified and allowed to enter and administer care for Reyes. EMS determined that Reyes’ injuries were so severe that a PHI Air Medical Helicopter was requested to transport him to a hospital. He was flown to Memorial Herman Hospital in downtown Houston.
According to police, Reyes and Arriaga were friends and had been so for many years. Reyes was at Arriaga’s home celebrating a birthday for another family member who was also at the residence, along with several other adults and children. While in the backyard of the residence, Arriaga and Reyes had a disagreement and began arguing. The altercation escalated and turned physical. During the fight, Arriaga brandished a knife and cut/stabbed Reyes numerous times. Reyes sustained five stab wounds to his back, one stab wound to his chest, one stab wound to the left side of his torso and one laceration to the left side of his head.
Further investigation revealed that Arriaga held an open warrant for his arrest out of Austin County for failure to appear on an original charge of giving false information/driver's license. Arriaga was also charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and was placed in the Austin County Jail.
