Sealy boys soccer wrap up third place in district

The Sealy boys soccer team finished up regular season play on Friday at TJ Mills Stadium with a 4-1 win over rival Bellville to clinch third place in district and a spot in the playoffs.

Just eight minutes into the game, Hector Romero curled in a free kick to Eleazar Guerrero who slotted a shot past the goalie for a 1-0 lead.

Jesus Sanchez hit a free kick that forced a diving save from the Bellville goalie 15 minutes into the match that forced a corner kick.

On the corner, Sanchez broke free and scored to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.

Five minutes later, the stadium went dark with the lights going out due to an issue with the breaker box.

It took 20 minutes before the lights were restored and neither team was able to find the back of the net before halftime.

After halftime, Sealy controlled the game and went ahead 3-0 when Sanchez took a short pass off of a corner kick and hit a shot at a tough angle that sailed past the Bellville goalie.

Fermin Villagomez scored later in the half to give the Tigers a 4-0 lead, but the Brahmas managed a late goal to keep Sealy from achieving a shutout.

On Monday, the Tigers lost to Brookshire Royal 5-3 to drop the Tigers to third place in district.

Sealy coach Juan Perez said the Tigers will face either Brazosport or El Campo in the bi-district playoffs, which will be played between March 23 and March 25.
