The Sealy baseball team got its season off to a strong start going 4-0 at the West of the Brazos Hit and Run Tournament hosted by Sweeny and Columbia over the weekend.
The Tigers opened with a 2-1 win over Sweeny on Feb. 23.
Sweeny took a 1-0 lead in the second inning and the Tigers battled back to score two runs in the sixth for the victory.
Sealy had six hits in the win led by Justin Eckhardt's two, and Garrett Zaskoda and Tanner Stilts added one apiece. Riley Gott had two RBIs.
Eckhardt got the start on the mound and struck out six batters over five innings.
On Friday, the Tigers started out with a 4-0 win over Mount Pleasant.
The Tigers scored a run in the second inning, two more in the third and a run in the sixth finishing with five hits and one error.
Devin Aguado led the Tigers with two RBIs and Brennan Brandes added one RBI.
Will Cerny started on the mound and struck out two batters over four innings. Stilts came on in relief for two innings.
Sealy's second game on Friday was a 14-1 win over Danbury.
The Tigers struck early with four runs in the first inning, one in the second, six more in the third and three in the fourth to win by run-rule.
Sealy had 10 hits in the win led by Cerny and Brandes collecting three apiece. Cerny and Jess Welch added three RBIs apiece, and Brandes had two.
Eckhardt and Hunter Kelly were each walked twice while Welch had one walk.
Zaskoda went three innings on the mound with three strikeouts and Aguado pitched one inning with two strikeouts.
Sealy wrapped up the tournament on Saturday with a 3-1 win over Van Vleck.
The Tigers scored a run in the third and two in the fifth inning. The Tigers had seven hits and two errors in the win.
Cerny led the way with two RBIs and a walk. Stilts had two hits, Eckhardt had an RBI and a hit, and Gott added a hit.
Nick Rapsilver started on the mound for the Tigers and went 3.1 innings with four strikeouts.
The Tigers will head to the Lamar Consolidated tournament starting on Thursday. Sealy will face Lamar at 10 a.m. and HCYA at 12:15 p.m. On Friday, the Tigers will face Fort Bend Bush at 12:15 p.m. and Kinkaid at 5 pm.
Sealy wraps up the tournament on Saturday against Alief Taylor at 5 p.m.
Eckhardt was chosen by Texas High School Baseball as Pitcher of the Week by pitching a one hitter against Sweeny last week.
