Rosalie F. Zapalac
February 4, 1928 – March 23, 2016
Rosalie F. Zapalac was born on February 4, 1928 in Crosby, Texas to Petr and Rosa Konarik. When she was 2 years old, her family moved to the Sealy, Texas area. She was a hard worker and her parents took her out of school in the 10th grade to help out on the family farm, while her brothers served in the military. In 1946, she married Henry B. Zapalac, Sr. and they lived in Sealy. She raised their five children and when the kids were grown up, she worked as a Pool Clerk at Stephen F. Austin State Park for many years. She loved her job, made lots of friends there and even watched some of her grandchildren learn how to swim.
Rosalie was a great cook who always enjoyed feeding, hosting and taking care of her family and friends. She loved watching sports in her spare time and attended many of her children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sporting events. One of her favorite hobbies was quilting with a group of friends. She loved polka music, attending local dances, playing bingo and embraced her Czech heritage. You could always find her surrounded by her family and friends. She was a devout Catholic and member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sealy, Texas. She was 88 years old when she was called to rest.
She is survived by her 5 children: Gloria and Norbert Slanina, Henry B. Zapalac, Jr. “Beboy,” Barbara and Tommy Quinton, Bernice Ludwig, Michael and Charlotte Zapalac; grandchildren Stacy and Greg Dodson, Kristi and Grant Vogelsang, Steven and Manda Quinton, Lori and Norbert Tretner, Scott Quinton, Kerri and William Dawson, Jason Slanina, Elaina and Matt Buckley and Brock Zapalac and fiancé Amanda Stephens; great-grandchildren Ashton and Brice Steffey and Emeryn and Sawyer Buckley, Connor, Lauren and Parker Vesely, Adelyn and Gage Quinton, Evry and Lander Dawson and Alina and Hazel Tretner.
She is preceded in death by her husband Henry B. Zapalac, Sr.; parents Petr and Rosa Konarik; brothers Pete Konarik, Johnnie W. Konarik and Stanley Konarik, Sr.; sister Adela Kutra and grandson Karl Ludwig “Karlie Boy.”
