Veterans Day Assembly and Luncheon
The Sealy High School Student Council will be hosting a Veterans Day Assembly on Friday, Nov. 10, 2017 at 10 a.m. in the high school gym. Immediately following there will be a luncheon for all veterans, active duty military and their families in the band hall.

A Veterans Day service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at Veterans Memorial Park, 998 F.M. 529 next to the American Legion Hall.
Flag Retirement Ceremony
In honor of Veterans Day, Texas ChalleNGe Academy will host a flag retirement ceremony Saturday, Nov. 11, at 4 p.m. The ceremony will be held in front of the Academy, at 600 Highway 3013W, Eagle Lake. The event is open to the community with VIP seating provided to veterans starting at 3:30 p.m.
Austin County Civic Chorale
The Austin County Civic Chorale will be presenting their first concert of their 33rd season on Nov. 12, titled "Thankful." The performance will include music of thanksgiving and renewal. The concert will be held at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Bellville at 4 p.m.
Texas German Society
A German-style meal will be the main feature of the next meeting of the Bluebonnet Chapter of the Texas German Society. Also, Karl Micklitz will describe Christmas traditions in Germany while other members will tell about the traditions in their homes and communities in Texas. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at the Hill Center. The chapter will provide pork roast and sausage. Members with last names beginning from A-L should bring sides and those with last names beginning from M-Z should bring desserts. The Bellville Young Professionals are seeking volunteers to help with landscaping and cleanup at the Austin County Courthouse from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 18 at the courthouse, 1 East Main St., Bellville.
Chicken Stew Dinner
A boneless chicken stew dinner will be served starting at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, at the Nelsonville Brethren Church Educational Building. To-go plates are available, along with a country store, raffle, refreshments and baked goods. The church invites the public to attend worship services at 10:15 a.m.
Fantasy of Lights
The 2017 Fantasy of Lights Parade is Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. The parade Deadline is Nov. 29, and this year’s theme is Christmas Around the World. The entry deadline for the 2017 Fantasy of Lights Pageant is Nov. 9, and the contest is Nov. 11 at the American Legion Hall.

Americans of German descent constitute the largest ethnic group in the United States with more than 58 million Americans proudly proclaiming their German heritage. Austin County and the surrounding areas contain a large number of inhabitants with German backgrounds.
The Bluebonnet Chapter of Texas German Society strives to preserve and promote the German language, culture and traditions. This group meets bi-monthly at the Hill Center in Sealy. State Historic Site
San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site shares the stories of Stephen F. Austin and his colonists who came to Mexican Texas in the 1820s and 1830s.
