Hollien Family Reunion

The Hollien Family Reunion for the descendents of Hulda (Ramm) and Johan Hollien will be Saturday, Sept. 30, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Sealy. A meeting and potluck meal is planned for 11 a.m.

Blessing of the Animals

Blessings, treats, photos and medals will be offered at the 12th annual Blessing of the Animals. All creatures are welcome if properly restrained or bring a photo of your pet to be blessed at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1 at St. John’s Episcopal Church at the corner of Highway 36 and Sixth Street, Sealy.

Austin County Democratic Club

The Austin County Democratic Club will meet Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. at the Gordon Memorial Library. Speaker will be Brett Hightower on GOTV. The public is invited to attend.

Food Bank Produce Truck

The Houston Food Bank Produce Truck will be in Sealy at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 1390 Highway 90, Tuesday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to noon. The produce is free to anyone living in Austin County. There also will be someone from the Houston Food Bank to assist with anyone who needs help applying for or renewing SNAP (food stamps) or children’s Medicaid/CHIP.

 

Lions Sealy Dance Club

The Lions Sealy Dance Club is having a dance on Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Sealy American Legion Hall with Lost Cause providing the music from 7:30 to 11 p.m. Guests are always welcome.

 

Holy Cross Parish Bazaar

Riverside Hall will be the site of the Holy Cross Parish Bazaar, Oct. 8. Lunch consisting of barbecue beef, chicken and sausage with “homemade” dressing and all the trimmings will be served at 11 a.m. Hamburgers will be available at 3 p.m. Pastries, refreshments and country store items will be available for purchase during the day. An auction is planned for 12:30 p.m.

Red Cross Assistance

The American Red Cross Immediate Assistance Program is designed to provide emergency financial assistance to Texas households in 39 federally-declared counties impacted by Hurricane Harvey, specifically in those communities where homes were most severely damaged, residents were displaced and life-sustaining services were disrupted. Registration will be open through Oct. 9, 2017, with a bilingual online portal that will enable applicants to self-register for assistance and select from several options to efficiently receive assistance through multiple financial channels. Harvest Festival

The 52nd annual Harvest Festival, sponsored by Sealy First United Methodist Church, will be Sunday, Oct. 29, at the Fellowship Hall, 200 Atchison Street in Sealy.  Activities include Halloween costume contest, face painting, jump house, and games/contests. Call the church or see fumcsealy.org for more information.

State Historic Site

San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site shares the stories of Stephen F. Austin and his colonists who came to Mexican Texas in the 1820s and 1830s. The historic site is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and offers frequent special-content programming on weekends. Construction on a new museum is ongoing (anticipated opening is spring 2018). Today’s Word Ministries

Today’s Word Ministries is starting a nondenominational Bible study at Tony’s Family Restaurant in Sealy. Updated property tax information available

The Austin County Appraisal District has updated property tax information available to assist taxpayers. Information for select groups, such as disabled veterans and persons who are who are age 65 or older. For more information about these programs, contact the Austin County Appraisal District at 906 E. Amelia St., Bellville, or at 979-865-9124. Information is also available on the Comptroller's Property Tax Assistance Division's website.

 

Free Genealogy Class

The Gordon Memorial Library invites you to attend a free Genealogy class, each Wednesday at 11 a.m. until noon at the Gordon Memorial Library – 917 N. Circle Drive.

  1. Information about you, your parents, and your grandparents;
