Houston Methodist to host cancer survivors

Houston Methodist Cancer Center at West invite local cancer survivors and a guest to join in The Cancer Survivors Day Celebration and Lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 3 at Houston Methodist West Hospital’s Mesquite Conference Room. Knights of Columbus offer barbecue chicken

The Sealy Knights of Columbus will hold a barbecue chicken dinner, drive-through only, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 12 at the Sealy KC Hall.

St. Rose Church picnic

The St. Rose Church picnic is set for June 12 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Schulenburg June 12, 2016 at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Mass will be held at 7:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. Lunch beings at 11 a.m.

Food Bank produce truck

The Houston Food Bank produce truck will be in Bellville at the St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic Church, 936 South Front St., from 10 a.m. to noon June 8. The produce is free to anyone living in Austin County. There will also be someone from the Houston Food Bank to assist anyone who needs help with applying or renewing SNAP (food stamps) or children’s Medicaid/CHIP.

Grief Support Group

A grief support group for those recently losing a loved one will meet on Thursdays from May 19 to June 23 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Gordon Memorial Library.

Ackley Golf Event Rescheduled for July 22

The C. Gaylen Ackley Memorial Golf Classic XVI will be held on Friday, July 22 at Stephen F. Austin Golf Course, according to event planners. The event was originally scheduled for Friday, May 20 but predicted heavy rainfall caused the event to be postponed. Tagged the “Thanks a Million” event, the 2016 golf event will top the one million dollar mark for proceeds raised.

1996 Sealy Football reunion

The 1996 Sealy Football reunion is set for September 23. If you would like to participate please contact Coach Norris at bgnorris@yahoo.com. The athletic department will send out invites in the summer.

Stephen F. Austin State Park Camp Wild 

Texas Parks & Wildlife’s Stephen F. Austin State Park. officials will offer a week long “Camp Wild” for chidren age 6 to 11 from June 20 to June 24 at Park Road 38 in San Felipe. The week’s sessions run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day and include fishing, ranger hikes, animal & plant study, camping skills, arts in the park and camp cooking (just to name a few). Katy Prairie Conservancy offers summer programs for kids

The Katy Prairie Conservancy (KPC) presents three different Summer Science Nights geared toward students and the Unplugged Adventure Nightlife for all ages. All will take place at the Indiangrass Preserve on the Katy Prairie. The Summer Science Nights program runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 8, 11 and 29, with a special “Unplugged Adventure” evening of nightlife study from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on June 11.

All events require advance registration on katyprairie.org. Click the “Visit” tab to find “Events.” Participants are encouraged to bring water, cameras, binoculars, and snacks, if desired. For information call (713) 523-6135.

Austin County Livestock Association annual meeting

The Austin County Livestock Association will hold the 66th annual meeting today. Dr. Don Goodwin from Navasota Veterinary Clinic will be the speaker for the meeting at Cat Spring Agricultural Society Hall. All livestock producers are encouraged to attend the meeting. Following the meeting a meal of barbecue beef and pork plus all the trimmings will be served.
