Rotary Club of Sealy

The Rotary Club of Sealy meets every Tuesday at noon at Maribelli’s Italian Restaurant, its new location.

Sealy News Angel Tree

The Sealy News annual Angel Tree is up to help bring holiday cheer to Sealy’s local seniors who are living on fixed incomes. Sponsors can take the expressive ornaments representing each of the Silver Lake and The Oaks residents and purchase an appropriate gift and return by Dec. 14. Angel Tree

First United Methodist is hosting the Vendor Blender on Dec. 1 from noon-8 p.m. in downtown Sealy. Downtown will be packed with musical and dance performances before the Christmas tree lighting commences. The program helps provide gifts to the senior citizens in Sealy.

Sealy Dance Club

The Sealy Dance Club will be host a dance Saturday, Dec. 3 at the Sealy American Legion Hall. Music will be from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. provided by Texas Sound Czech.

Friends of SFA State Park

On Saturday, Dec. 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., during this day of volunteer service, we will work together to get Stephen F. Austin State Park ready for a Jan. 1, 2017 grand reopening by performing minor maintenance duties, cleaning the park and clearing the trails. Volunteers can meet at the state park dining hall parking lot. Stop by the headquarters for directions. Bring work gloves and equipment, i.e. rakes and shovels, as park as a limited supply. Wear sturdy shoes and work clothes; no open toe shoes. Bring water bottle and snacks. To sign up, go online to https://www.eventbrite.com/e/stephen-f-austin-state-park-day-tickets-28862767314. Sign up not mandatory but it will help the park get a count on how many volunteers to expect.

Sealy Lions Club breakfast

On Saturday, Dec. 3, from 9 a.m.-11 a.m., the Sealy Lions Club will host Breakfast with Santa held at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 402 Atchison St. A sausage and pancake breakfast will be served and kids can take a free photo with Santa. Suggested donations for adults is $5, and kids eight and under eat free. All money raised goes to support Lions charities.

Aggie Moms meeting

Austin County Aggie Moms will have their next meeting on Monday, Dec. 5, 2016, at the Sens Center in Bellville.  Refreshments will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting at 6 p.m. We will be doing an ornament exchange. Please bring a snack or dessert. Hope to see you there.

Food Bank Produce Truck

The Houston Food Bank Produce Truck will be in Sealy at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 1390 Hwy 90 W, Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016, from 10 a.m. to noon.  The produce is free to anyone living in Austin County.  There will also be someone from the Houston Food Bank to assist anyone that needs help with applying or renewing SNAP (food stamps) or children’s Medicaid/CHIP.

Hermann Sons Christmas

Cat Spring Hermann Sons will have their annual Christmas and awards party on Thursday, Dec. 8 at the agricultural hall in Cat Spring. Happy hour begins at 6 p.m., with a meeting, dinner and awards at 6:30 p.m. Turkey and dressing will be provided, and members are asked to bring a side dish or dessert. 

The Humanitarian Award and 50-, 60- and 70-year memberships will be recognized. In lieu of a gift exchange, donations will be accepted for the Sealy Pregnancy Resource Center. The lodge will also make a donation. For information, contact Pat at 979-885-3695.

Community Bible Study

Community Bible Study is held at the Bellville United Methodist Church, 234 South Masonic, Room 204, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. every Thursday until April. Classes cover an exciting study titled, “Red Sea to the Jordan River” from the books of Exodus, Leviticus and Numbers. There’s also a program for children from nursery through high school. Storytime

New Beginnings Support Group

New Beginnings Support Group is a new group which will cover topics such as domestic abuse, depression, anxiety, divorce and grief. Today’s Word Ministries

Today’s Word Ministries is starting a nondenominational Bible study at Tony’s Family Restaurant in Sealy. Meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesdays every month at 7 p.m. Come as you are and, if you want to, enjoy your Tony’s supper at 6 p.m. and study from 7 p.m.-8 p.m. For more information, call Stew Williford at 979-661-0242 (cell), or email stewandmickey@earthlink.net.

Free boot-camp and Zumba classes

The boot-camp class starts at 5:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The Zumba cardio class is at 8:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Monday through Fridays. For more information, contact Theresa Hernandez at 832-535-4797.

USMC meets the second Saturday each month at 6 p.m. at Maribelli’s Italian Restaurant.

Updated property tax information available   

The Austin County Appraisal District has updated property tax information available to assist taxpayers.  Has information for select groups, such as disabled veterans and persons who are who are age 65 or older. For more information about these programs, contact the Austin County Appraisal District at 906 E. Amelia St., Bellville, Texas or at 979-865-9124. Information is also available on the Comptroller's Property Tax Assistance Division's website.
