Naomi Ruth (Gaines) Ross


Naomi Ruth (Gaines) Ross, 81, passed away on Oct. 10, 2016 in Sealy, Texas. She was born to Hallie Woodman Troy Gaines and Ruth Lone (Walker) on July 8, 1935 in Cameron County, Texas.

She graduated from Port Lavaca High School and then attended Prairie View A&M University for a short time. She was a teacher and seamstress by trade and enjoyed crafts and sewing. She volunteered at the VFW posts in Katy and Bellville, as well as serving as president and treasurer of the Katy branch. She was also a member of the Teachers Retirement Association and Assembly of God Churches. 

Naomi was preceded in death by: her husband, Dan Ross; parents, Hallie and Ruth Gaines; brother, Lester Gaines; and daughter, Monica Chavez.

Naomi is survived by: daughters, Dian Schneider and Susan Martinez; grandchildren, Jamil Chavez, Trisha Herring, Michelle Chavez, Daniel Chavez and Kaylyn Schneider; six great-grandchildren; brother, Homer and Eldon Gaines; and sisters, Lottie Frank and Mittie Bennetsen.

Pallbearers: Roy and Donnie Fink, and Otis Ivy.

Funeral services were held at Christian City Fellowship Church. Serving as officiants were pastors Clyde Drake and Anne Griffin.

Memorial donations may be made in Naomi’s name to the Juvenile Diabetes Association. The family would like to thank the staff of Autumn Care Hospice for their care of Naomi.
