Mary Cross Woodley died on Jan. 17, 2018 in Brenham, Texas. She was born Nov. 28, 1924, in Hempstead, Texas, to W.W. "Bug" Chapman and Maggie Pearl Feagin Chapman. She grew up in Hempstead, where she attended public schools, was a High School twirler and graduated from Hempstead High School in 1941.
On March 14, 1943, she married Ronald Winston Woodley in Cochran, Texas, and resided in the Raccoon Bend community until 2011. Besides being a homemaker all of her married life, Mary Cross also groomed dogs for several years, and was an active member and performer with the Austin County Mounted Dance Team during the 1950's, performing with the Austin County Mounted Dance Team during the 1950's, performing at fairs and rodeos throughout the state.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Winston Woodley, sister Izora Chapman, brothers Jack, Warren and Lawrence Chapman, and daughter-in-law Kay Woodley.
Survivors include her sister-in-laws Corene Chapman and Vernice Woodley, son Dr. James Woodley, daughter Kathy Walters and husband Jim, grandchildren Val Walters, Brenda Krchnak and husband Randle, Don Walters and wife Patricia, Ross Woodley and wife Christina, Susan Adams and husband Reed, Twelve great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
