Maggie Lene Adams

On Sept. 29, 1933, Maggie Lene Adams was born to Mollie Cole and Ezekiel Adams.  Her early childhood and school days were spent in Austin County in Kenny, Texas.

Maggie confessed a hope in Christ at an early age. She attended Austin County School. She met and married Lawrence Curtis Smith, Sr. on December 23, 1952 and moved to Sealy, Texas. To this union, they were blessed with five children.

Maggie became a member of Bethel Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Kemp and continued under the current pastor of Reverend C.B. Frazier. During her service she served as a choir member, mission member, mission president and deaconess. She loved the Lord with all of her heart and continued to serve him until the end.

Maggie was a domestic worker for a number of years in Sealy, Katy and Spring Branch. She developed lifelong relationships with these families. She continued to work up until her health began to fail.

Maggie was loved and adored by all who she came in contact with.  The faith that she had in God was displayed through the way she lived, loved, taught and testified to others the goodness of the Lord and all that he had done for her. Her spirit was so welcoming. Many people have adapted to calling her “Mama Maggie” because of how she perhaps listened to them, gave them advice, words of wisdom to live by and even a place to stay. She was more than just a wife, mother and grandmother. She was the “Matriarch” of the Smith family and leaves a legacy of love, kindness and warmth for the days ahead.

On Nov. 18, 2016, Maggie was welcomed to her heavenly home by her husband, Lawrence Curtis Smith, Sr.; mother, Mollie Adams; father, Ezekiel Adams; sisters Nina Kesee, Allie Adams, Inola Austin, Ida Dotson; brothers, Robert Adams, Thomas Adams, Ross Adams and Luckie Adams.

Cherishing her memories: her sister, Ruby Lee, of Los Angeles, CA; children, Lawrence C.  Jr., Ray (Sharon), Laverne, Johnnie Mae and Diane; grandchildren, Robert, Courtney(Jerrin), Cedric, Tamara (Eddie), Cherity, Dailione; great-grandchildren, Robert, Jr., Tiersen, Winzell, Tamara, Trayvon, Deja, Shamarion, Taviana, Terrin, LaNieya, Landon, Brett-Karter, Nevaeh; great-great grandchildren, Devondre, Adrian, Ri’Auna; adopted daughter, Brenda Powell; granddaughter, Nikki Sheppard; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends.
