Larry E. Gerland

Larry E. Gerland, 68, of Sealy, was born March 7, 1950 in Pasadena, Texas, and passed away on July 11, 2018, in Houston.

He married Sharon Sodolak on January 30, 1982 and together they have two daughters Lacey and Katie.

For many of us who didn’t know Larry in his so called “hippie years,” as his family would tease him, he loved the feeling of adventure and he traveled and worked in many places in the U.S. Larry always enjoyed telling his stories of all his past hiking expeditions, especially his weeks in Colorado and Alaska just to mention a few.

Larry was a man of many talents, from his numerous woodworking projects, to his inventions in his workshop, to baking cakes for family, friends and neighbors. He especially had the love of corn bread for every meal, not to mention the joy he had in cooking spaghetti or meatloaf for his girls – which today nobody can duplicate.

One of Larry’s biggest dreams in life was remodeling the Bay House for his family and making sure he built it the way he knew his family would enjoy. He was proud of his projects, especially his outdoor kitchen he just happened to finish a couple of weeks ago. Of course just in time for an awesome July 4 family gathering which included his grandchildren. Larry (PoPo) made the best scrambled eggs … according to the grandkids and he was sure they enjoyed some last week at the Bay House.

Larry was also the brother-in-law fishing weekend coordinator. Yes he blew up their phones with text messages to the guys trying to get them down to the coast. He loved for the guys to maybe do some fishing, eat plenty of good food, and drink his favorite Budweiser but mainly having his favorite people around him was the most important thing to him.

Larry proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force.

Larry is survived by his wife Sharon of 36 years; daughters Lacey Gerland Bozeman and Robert Evans, and Katie Gerland; grandchildren, Gunner and Tatum Bozeman and Alana Evans; brother-in-laws, Ludwig Sodolak, Jr and Terry, Marvin Sodolak, Dominic Sodolak, Sister-in-laws, Michelle Sodolak Ladd and Pete, and Jackie Sodolak Klatt and Ray and his beloved furry four-legged companions, Lola, Macey and Griffin. Larry is also survived by many friends and family in the Sealy and Sargent communities. He loved all of you more than you probably know. We all loved him too and his life will always be part of each of us. Until we all meet again.
