The Lady Tigers basketball team made their first appearance in front of a home crowd on Tuesday, Dec. 1 against Sweeny and evened up their record to 3-3 for the season with a win of 44-39.
Later in the week, the Lady Tigers traveled to Brazos for more tournament action and defeated Brazos 35-23, then lost to Yoakum 25-31, and defeated Victory Prep North 75-27 and Tidehaven 55-37.
The Lady Tigers now stand at 6-4 for the season.
In the Sweeny game, the Lady Tigers won the first and second period of play and then lost steam and fell dead in the third period and trailed by as much as 12 points.
Sweeny led into the fourth period until the last three minutes of play when Jaymi Gordon dropped two three pointers to close the gap.
Coach Anthony Branch pulled his team together and completed the win 44-39.
Gordon talked about Coach Branch and his efforts to compose the team.
“Coach told us to just calm down and make your shots, pull forward in the fourth quarter, and that’s what we did,” Gordon said.
Against Sweeny, Jaymi Gordon went 3 for 8 on three pointers, 6 for 10 on free throws, had two rebounds and mounted 27 points for the Lady Tigers. Kayla Green went 4 for 4 on free throws, and had seven rebounds and six points. Taylor Bartholomaus went 0 for 2 on free throws, but managed three rebounds and four points. Makayla Scott went 1 for 4 on free throws, had one rebound and three points. LaShanda Fitzgerald had 11 rebounds and two points. McKayla Black had five rebounds, went 2 for 4 on free throws and two points.
High scorer for the Tidehaven game were Jaymi Gordon with 25 points, McKayla Black with 11 points, LaShanda Fitzgerald with six points, Taylor Bartholomaus with five points, Kayla Green with four points, and Mallory Tatman and Jayme Kana each with two points.
Points against Brazos came from Jaymi Gordon with 16, McKayla Black with eight, LaShanda Fitzgerald with four, Summer Williams with 3, and Kayla Green and Kayla Rice each with two points.
High points for the Victory Prep North game were Jaymi Gordon and Jaymi Kana each with 15 points, McKayla Black with nine points, LaShanda Fitzgerald with seven points, Taylor Bartholomaus with six points, Mallory Tatman, Kayla Green, and McKayla Scott each with four points, Kayla Rice with two, and Summer Williams with one point.
Next up for the lady Tigers will be Rice Consolidated at home on Dec. 8, then a brief open weekend until play resumes on Dec. 15 in Bellville.
