The beginning of September was good for the Sealy Tigers volleyball team as they won seven matches in a row on the way to a 21-7 overall record. Unfortunately, the second half of the month was not as kind.
After seeing that win streak snapped by Needville when they played in mid-September, the Lady Tigers took on rival Bellville four days later and lost in four sets.
The match against Columbus, who is ranked 18th in the 4A class by the Texas Girls Coaches Association, was a key one to prevent the team from reaching double digit losses on the season.
The match didn’t start off well for the Lady Tigers as they dropped the first two sets 21-25 and 18-25. However, the team rallies to win the next two including a narrow 25-23 win in the fourth set. The fifth and final set was equally close but the Lady Tigers managed to pull out the win 19-17.
The two standouts of the match for the Lady Tigers were seniors Molly Dittert and Madison Luther.
Dittert led the team in aces with four and in assists with 40 while Luther led the team with 16 digs and tied for kills with 21.
The team’s record now rests at 21-9 with six matches remaining on the schedule. The team’s next match will be played against Stafford at press time but check in on the Sealy News Facebook page for an update.
The Tigers’ next match after that will be a home match against Royal on Friday, Oct. 6.
