It was a short week for the Lady Tigers’ basketball team. With only one game on Tuesday, Dec. 8 against Rice Consolidated resulting in a 51-68 loss, the Tigers fell to a season record of 9-6.
The Lady Tigers were first on the board against Rice when LaShanda Fitzgerald dropped the first basket, but the Rice Lady Raiders were heavy under the net dominating rebounds and took the board back quickly.
Just four minutes into the game, the Lady Tigers were behind 2-9, then 2-11. But, in the last minutes of the first quarter, McKayla Black brought the Lady Tigers back with three more shots to end the first quarter 10-11.
The second quarter was neck and neck up and down the court. The Tigers answered the Raiders point-for-point, and going into the half evened the score 23-23.
The Lady Raiders won the third and fourth quarters. Unable to secure rebounds and second-chance shots under the net hurt the Lady Tigers, as well as fouls.
“(The Raiders) were very athletic. We work on so many things in practice, and I try to let them know that we have to work hard in practice. Practice brings the team to a higher level… then we can execute at a higher level. This is the type of team we need to prepare for,” said head coach Anthony Branch.
Stats for the Rice game were unavailable at this time due to filming problems at the school, and will be published as they become available.
Up next, the Lady Tigers traveled to Bellville on Tuesday, Dec. 15, to take on the Brahmanettes, then travel to Columbia on Friday.
