Faith Academy Bellville finished off their matches before the annual Austin County Fair at 1-1. The Lady Knights defeated Cypress Covenant Christian 3-0 after starting the week with a 3-0 road loss to TAPPS 3A power Central Texas Christian Temple.
The Lady Knights struggled early and couldn’t find a rhythm on the road versus Central Texas. Mistakes in skill set and inconsistent communication contributed to the 25-6, 25-14, 25-17 loss.
“It was just a bad night for volleyball all the way around,” head coach Joshua McLain said. “We dug ourselves a hole in set one and couldn’t recover. Looking back, had we played to who we are, we could have made it more competitive. It happens. We learn from it and move on.”
It was a tale of two teams when the Lady Knights turned around and met Cypress Covenant. Tough serving and better results in the system helped push the Lady Knights past the Patriots 25-13, 25- 8, 25-12.
“We definitely showed back up and what a difference one night makes,” McLain said. “It was an improvement. There wasn’t much time to adjust in between matches but we went over some things and talked about what we need to do in order to play our best game the rest of the season.”
The split in matches push the Lady Knights to 7-1 in District 9-A and 14-8-3 overall.
Faith will close out district against Conroe Calvary Baptist on the road at 6 p.m. on Oct. 19.
