In their final meet of the regular season last Saturday, all members of the Faith Academy boys’ cross country team recorded personal-best times at Covenant Christian.
Sophomore Beck Briggs led the way and finished 21st out of 67 runners with a 14-second improvement on his personal-best time to record a time of 18:50. Senior Landen Bright registered a 20:27 time to narrowly beat his personal-best time, sophomore John Poorman returned from a four-week injury hiatus and recorded a 21:12 time and classmate Eli Kubicek took a minute off his personal record and finished in 21:29.
The Class 1A Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools’ state championship meet will be Monday, Nov. 2, in Waco and head coach Ann Howarth said junior Maury Cano will be a late addition to help the team field six varsity runners. He’ll run alongside Joshua and Landen Bright, Beck Briggs, John Poorman and Eli Kubicek to improve on their times once again.
“In their final week of training, the boys are determined to come back with the best team finish in school history,” Howarth said.
Also competing at the state championships will be the lone Lady Knight, freshman Summer Bright, who registered a personal-best time of 14:42 at Faith Academy’s second meet of the season at The Woodlands.
