The lights were on, the competition was stiff, and just a little muddy.
The annual Friday Night Lights Meet in The Woodlands ran last week and featured a trio from Faith Academy who put in work at the cross country meet despite the conditions.
Rain fell heavily prior to the shotgun start and drenched the course, creating a mud pit near the finish line that claimed hundreds of shoes over the course of the events.
By the time the boys’ varsity “B” race kicked off around 8:35 p.m. the course had been well worn down by fun runs, open community races and the junior varsity competitions as well.
Still, the Knights pressed on and were led by the Bright brothers, freshman Joshua and junior Landen, with the former serving as the first finisher from Faith in 16:49.1, earning 216th overall.
Landen compiled a time of 16:59.7 and came in 222nd with junior Eric Carlin hot on his heels with a time of 17:03 to earn 224th overall.
The Knights will head to Tomball for their next meet at the John Cooper School on Saturday, Aug. 31.
